I can't believe
there is a push to amend the US Constitution to ban same sex
marriages. This seems to be completely against the grain for
a country that claims to be "The Land of the Free"
and prides itself on protecting individual freedoms. This is
entirely a religious based effort to take a topic that does
not need government interference. The only input the government
should have is to acknowledge if two people (regardless of sex)
have made a long term commitment to each other and how they
should pay taxes as a family unit.
My personal preference
is that I don't really want to know anything about same sex
marriages. But if two people want to do something that doesn't
affect me in any way, there is no reason for me to object or
stop them. Someday the situation may be reversed, and I don't
want anyone to tell me what to do if it doesn't affect them.
I personally hope
that anyone who spearheads this effort is voted out of office
rather quickly. I can see this type of legislation expanding
to limit other freedoms in the future. Let your congressmaen
and senators know that you don't want to stop protecting individual
rights and freedoms.
