John Walker Lindh is the American citizen that was caught fighting
on the side of the Taliban in Afghanistan. He is being charged
with conspiring to kill Americans overseas, providing support
to Al Qaeda and other terrorists organizations, and using firearms
and other destructive devices during crimes of violence. His
attorneys are trying to have the case thrown out because it
is not allowed to prosecute lawful combatants in war and his
civil rights were denied.
I believe he is a traitor to the United States and needs to
be prosecuted as such.
If he wants to support a cause, that is his choice. But when
his cause goes against that of his country, he must choose one
side or the other. To play both sides to your own gain is dishonorable,
and dangerous to everyone who believes in you on either side.
He should have renounced his citizenship if he was going to
attack his country - A traitor is one who attacks his own country
or supports the enemy in doing so. Instead he supports attacks
on his country then claims the protection of his country when
he loses.
I do not want any of my tax dollars or representatives in the
government supporting someone who attacks my country and fellow
citizens.
He had the option to work within the systems of this country
to help gain support for the Taliban and their beliefs. He could
have gained support of others in the country and elected officials
to represent them in the government. Instead he goes overseas,
and then he supports the enemy in attacks against his fellow
citizens. He should be imprisoned as a traitor.
